Résumé
Julian Agyeman is the originator of the increasingly influential concept of ‘’just sustainabilities’’, the intentional integration of social justice and sustainability defined as: the need to ensure a better quality of life for all, now, and into the future, in a just and equitable manner, whilst living within the limits of supporting ecosystems. In his talk he will outline the concept of ‘’just sustainabilities’’, arguing for the urgency of integrating social justice with sustainability objectives, to create a more just, rounded, and equity-focused definition of sustainability and sustainable development. Based on his research, Julian will offer examples of ‘’just sustainabilities’’ in policy, planning, and practice focusing on ideas of ‘’Complete Streets’’ and urban design for all; planning for intercultural cities; urban agriculture and food justice; and Sharing Cities as a more relational concept than the largely transactional notion of the sharing economy.
