Performance s’inspirant des révolutions récentes dans le monde arabe, Collective Individual traduit l’impact psychologique sur les civils et les victimes en temps de guerre. Cette création hybride dépeint de façon mordante la dualité perceptive d’un individu et d’une collectivité. Comment se vit une révolution? Réalité subjective et point de vue dichotomique, les révolutions se heurtent les unes aux autres : douloureuses chez un individu – perte d’un être cher – et bénéfiques pour une collectivité – libération de l’oppression politique.

L’oeuvre de Zohar Melinek et de Mary St-Amand Williamson occupe cet espace, cet entre-deux sociopolitique, cette mince barrière qui sépare ces idéaux irréconciliables. Collective Individual est présenté dans le cadre du Printemps du MAI, un événement portant sur l’art engagé et les mouvements protestataires.

A performance inspired by recent revolutions in the Arab world, Collective Individual conveys the psychological impact war has on civilians and on its victims. An interdisciplinary new work that caustically conveys the perceptual duality of an individual and a collective, it asks the question: How is a revolution experienced? A subjective reality and a dichotomous point of view collide; painful for an individual – the loss of a loved one – and beneficial for the collectivity – freedom from political oppression.

This work by Zohar Melinek and Mary St-Amand Williamson occupies an in-between socio-political space - that thin barrier that separates irreconcilable ideals: a powerful mass movement alongside the frailty and resilience of an individual. Collective Individual is being presented as part of Le Printemps du MAI, a two-week event examining, in part, politically engaged art and
protest movements.
