Très répandu chez les Ojibwés, les Innus et les Cris, le rite de la « tente tremblante » permet aux chamans de communiquer avec le monde invisible des esprits. Campé dans un futur fictif post-apocalyptique, The Speaking Tent (Music Temple) réinvente un nouveau langage qui s’inspire de la théorie du chaos observée dans la nature. Composée de projections en boucle et d’échantillonnages sonores analogiques, l’installation multimédia intègre objets urbains, sculptures miniatures rotatives et outils technologiques déconstruits et reconstruits.

En marge de l’installation, présentée du 25 février au 2 mars, Emi Honda et Jordan McKenzie donneront vie, le temps d’une performance, à ce microcosme mi-techno, mi-organique. L’installation lo-Tech The Speaking Tent (Music Temple) sera manipulée en direct par ces nouveaux chamans contemporains. La performance du 2 mars est présentée dans le cadre du festival MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE.

In the “shaking tent” ritual widely practiced by the Ojibwa, Innu and Cree, medicine-men communicate with the invisible spirit world. Set in a quasi apocalyptic landscape, The Speaking Tent (Music Temple) as envisioned by Emi Honda and Jordan McKenzie invents a new language inspired by chaos theory as observed in nature. Composed of looped images and analog sound samples, this multimedia installation incorporates urban objects, miniature rotating sculptures and deconstructed and reconstructed technology. This lo-tech mechanized installation will provide the soundtrack to the duo’s latest video narrative, manipulated on-site by these new contemporary shaman.

In addition to the installation (February 25 - March 2), Emi Honda and Jordan McKenzie will give life, through performance, to this part-techno, part-organic microcosm. The Speaking Tent (Music Temple), a lo-tech installation will be manipulated live during the performances by these new contemporary shamans. The performance on March 2nd is presented in association with MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE.
