Conférence: «Herbert Spencer, his British Disciples, and Evolutionary Naturalism»

Dans le cadre des conférences du CIRST, Bernard Lightman (Department of Humanities, York University) présentera une communication en anglais sur Herbert Spencer, philosophe et sociologue anglais du 19e siècle. 

Résumé en anglais:  Herbert Spencer devoted his life to building a tightly integrated system of thought based on evolutionary theory. In this paper I will argue that his most important British disciples, attracted to different aspects of his thought, picked Spencer’s System apart and contributed to the rapid decline of his reputation.
