RICK LEONG « HYBRID VIGOUR » La nouvelle série de peintures Hybrid Vigour de Rick Leong est inspirée des investigations de l’artiste dans l’univers de l’hybridité et du phénomène crépusculaire développée au cours d’une série de voyages en canoë à travers le sud de l’Ontario et aussi durant une résidence récente à Can Serrat à Barcelone en Espagne. Intrigué par les moments de flou entre jour et nuit, éveil et sommeil, Leong s’est concentré sur la notion d’hybridité combinant des formes vivantes afin de créer quelque chose de nouveau. Ceci se traduit par la construction de paysages magistralement exécutés sur toile d’où émergent de nouvelles significations et réflexions sur la mythologie qui introduisent le spectateur dans l’univers onirique de l’artiste.

Rick Leong’s Hybrid Vigour is inspired by the artist’s investigations in hybridity and the phenomenology of dusk and dawn, researched and developed during a series of canoe trips throughout Southern Ontario as well as during a recent artist’s residency in Barcelona, Spain. Intrigued by the blurry moments between day and night, alert and at rest, Leong focused on the notion of hybridity as a combination of life forms to create something new. The artist translates this into his constructed landscapes where new meanings and reflections upon mythology come to the surface of his masterfully executed works on canvas, introducing the viewer into the artist’s oneiric world.

DEAN BALDWIN « LIME EYES » L'installation Lime Eyes de Dean Baldwin dans le Bunker de la PARISIAN LAUNDRY confond l’objet et le sujet, la vie quotidienne et la pratique artistique. Dean Baldwin est connu pour ses installations d’environnements sociaux immersifs, comme sa contribution mémorable à un bar à cocktail en forme de bateau à voile dans la rotonde du Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal l’hiver passé. Baldwin nous invite à des espaces communs reconstruits artificiellement- un bateau à voile, un bar Tiki, un chalet à caractère typiquement canadien- où il crée une atmosphère conviviale et où il nous invite à passer un moment avec lui- l’hôte de la soirée.

Dean Baldwin's installation Lime Eyes in PARISIAN LAUNDRY’s coveted Bunker space blurs the lines between subject and object and art and life. Baldwin’s work typically combines food, drink, lounge and entertainment to provide participants with an experience that is thoughtful, unique and active. Baldwin’s work is currently installed at Mass MoCA, in North Adams, MA as part of the Oh, Canada exhibition where viewers / participants are invited to visit a “Canadian style” chalet with a fully equipped bar frequently serviced by the artist himself. Baldwin’s remarkable contribution to the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art’s Triennial in the Fall 2011 transformed the Rotunda entrance of the museum through the installation of a massive 1952 wooden sailboat bar.
