« GLITCH-ALIKES » Particulièrement intéressé à l’effet apporté par la conversion d’un médium à l’autre; entre le gain et la perte de la traduction autant que l’instabilité inhérente de l’information enregistrée, Mark Stebbins crée un débat entre le métier d’art artisanal et les médias électroniques contemporains. Avec l’aide de l’acrylique et de quelques outils très fins; Mark Stebbins peint des données informatiques avec une métaphore de textile artisanal.

With a combined interest in traditional craft textile practices and contemporary digital media, Mark Stebbins has created the conflated world of “Glitch-alikes”. He builds the image by hand opting for an organic, personal and labor-intensive method. The references to textile structure shift from tight matrix to abandon unraveling without repeating a stitch. His imagery alludes to both a tension between data accumulation and/or degradation, and that found in all manually constructed textiles. The densely built up surface of fragmented mark-making fluxuates between two axes, that of digital organization, and conversely the possible corruption of data; and that of the order found in the hand-crafted textile matrix, and the possibility of a slipped stitch.
