DER GROSSE BRUDER (THE BIG BROTHER) (Jesús Peréz & Elisabeth Huettermann. Switzerland/Germany) A children’s film about the fun and cruelty among kids. Two cartoon characters develop a life of their own, in the combination of pixilation and classic animation. They humiliate and mock the third unfinished figure — but their temporary superiority shifts.

FITTING IN (Taylor Annisette, Canada) A little octagon goes to a school of circles and squares, and tries to fit in.

TOP DOG (Fiona Percival , Australia) Top Dog, his position in the home usurped by a baby, is accused of trying to kill the child and must use all his cunning to regain his place in the family.

T.H.I.R.S.T. (Joel Frenzer, USA) The Hilarious Incident (of the) Rocket Ship Tent. Dehydrated children suffer further dry mouth as an unexpected hindrance emerges from the school's water fountain. Made in one week as part of the NY International Children's Film Fest.

I CAN BE PRESIDENT! (Michael Sporn, USA) Three children express their thoughts on the Presidency as well as their hopes of becoming President and what they'll do in office.

TIGERIS (TIGER) (Janis Cimermanis , Latvia) A dark caravan arrives in the city during the night. The next morning children find a big box left on the street. Strange sounds come from this box. The famous Rescue Team men have been called in to help…

KEENAN AT SEA (David Cowles & Jeremy Galante, USA) The Girls head out to sea with their trusty companion. Disaster follows.

NIGHT ISLAND (Salvador Maldonado, UK/Poland) A merchant ship navigates through a terrible storm. Onboard a young girl tries to save her cat from being washed overboard. But a wave takes them both and they are swept into the sea. Waking up on a desolate beach, the girl encounters strange creatures that tempt her to stay on the mysterious island.

MARVIN (Mark Nute, U.K.) “Marvin was born with a hole in his head, He wasn’t born stupid, he wasn’t born dead...” A young boy born with an unusual extra orifice in the middle of his forehead embarks upon an adventure when one day something important falls out. A short, slightly twisted animation based on an original idea by Frank Pudney, narrated by Steve Coogan with music composed by Jeff Mercel of Mercury Rev.

THE FANTASTIC FLYING BOOKS OF MR. MORRIS LESSMORE (William Joyce & Brandon Oldenburg, USA) Inspired in equal measures by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books — a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favour. Using a variety of techniques (miniatures, computer animation, 2D animation), award-winning author/illustrator William Joyce and co-director Brandon Oldenburg present a hybrid style that harkens back to silent films and M-G-M Technicolor musicals.

From September 19th to 23rd, the nation’s capital will once again become the centre of the animation universe. The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is the largest event of its kind in North America, a major film event attracting attendees from around the world. Film buffs, art lovers and cartoon fans won't want to miss this year's great line up.
