William Parker formed and first recorded this stunning Quartet in 2000, and the group has been a primary vehicle for his supreme talents as bassist, composer and bandleader since that time. They have released four highly and widely acclaimed albums: O’Neal’s Porch (2001), Raining On The Moon (2002), Sound Unity (2005), and Petit Oiseau (2008), and have engendered joy and awe in audiences around the world whenever they perform. They have toured Canada, Europe and the United States, in clubs and at major festivals. The entire history of jazz, inside out, is within their unified breath and at their collective fingertips, and they continue to create their own estimable chapter therein.
Furthermore, two albums featuring the William Parker Quartet were released in 2007: Alphaville Suite (RogueArt, France) featured them doubled with a string quartet to actualize a suite of Parker compositions inspired by the Jean Luc Godard film, and Corn Meal Dance (AUM Fidelity) presented the Quartet expanded with Eri Yamamoto, the Raining On The Moon Sextet: piano and Leena Conquest: vocals, in order to give luminous life to a new set of William Parker’s deeply poetic songs.
